Independent reviews

How we evaluate the gear we recommend.

Our reviews focus on what actually matters for your game — fit, reaction, durability, and value — not spec-sheet bragging. Here's our approach and our category breakdowns.

We review categories before products, because the category decides most of the result: a plastic spare ball and a strong asymmetric ball are built for opposite jobs, and the best shoe for a once-a-year bowler is the wrong shoe for a tournament player. How we review explains what we weigh and what we ignore. The ball categories and shoe categories pages define the terms, and the individual reviews, from the entry reactive ball and plastic spare ball to the strong asymmetric ball, performance shoes, interchangeable-sole shoes and the roller bag, say who each one is for.

Equipment facts on these pages come from the USBC Equipment Specifications Manual and from the makers’ own descriptions, and we say so where they appear. Purchases through our links may earn us a commission; it never changes which category we recommend.
